Mayor Stephen Reed and Chief Daniel Soulier honored members of the Fire Bureau today for deeds of valor, bravery and merit during the 2009 year at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. City Government Center.
Bureau Lieutenant Donald Pelton (Squad 8/A Platoon), a life member of the Mt. Pleasant, and Bureau Firefighter Robert Enterline where awarded the Medal of Bravery for there part in a daring rescue during which Lt. Pelton, FF Bob Enterline and FF Jared Briggs responded for a report of a woman in the Susquehanna River. Upon arrival, Lt. Pelton and FF Enterline recognized that the woman was clinging to a bridge pillar. Lt. Pelton and FF Enterline then set up and executed a high angle rope rescue. After repelling to the woman's position, FF Enterline then secured the victim until HFD's boat reached her and took her ashore.
For this event, Lt. Donald Pelton, FF Bob Enterline and FF Jared Briggs where also awarded a Unit Citation.
Mt. Pleasant Captain Gary Neff, Ex- Lieutenant Nate MacLane and Lieutenant Rob Kumpf where awarded a Unit Citation for actions taken at a cardiac arrest response. Neff, MacLane and Kumpf where riding Squad 8 with Bureau Lieutenant Donald Pelton, Firefighters Walter "JD" Simmons and Aldo Morrelli when they responded to 2400 Market Street, the Bellvue Towers for a 49 Year Old Female in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, the crew found the victim unresponsive, not breathing and with no pulse. Lt. Pelton directed the crew to begin CPR. The Squad crew was able to resuscitate the woman, who made a full recovery. All members of this six man crew are members of the Mt. Pleasant Fire/Rescue Services #8.
