Welcome to Harrisburg City Volunteer website!

Harrisburg, the state's capitol city, has a long and storied history dating back to it's incorporation in 1791. That same year an organization of civic minded people would form the first volunteer fire companies in Harrisburg. Throughout the years many changes have taken place, at it's peak, the Harrisburg Fire Department was host to some 16 volunteer companies, many of which have since disbanded simply ceased to exist.

Today there are only two remaining active volunteer companies in the city, the Mt. Pleasant # 8 and the Camp Curtain # 13. The Mt. Pleasant Fire/Rescue Service # 8 was founded in February 1877 to provide the residents of Allison Hill with a well equipped fire company. The Camp Curtain Fire Company # 13 was founded in 1906 to serve as the local fire company of the Uptown's tenth ward.

The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire answers well over 2,000 calls a year, many of which there will be a volunteer presence. Our call log reflects those calls answered by members of Company # 8 and do not reflect that of the Bureau. For information on joining the Bureau of Fire as a volunteer firefighter, contact the webmaster or call (717) 805-0093.
